Q: What membership categories are available?

There are the following categories of membership:

  • Professional Member (MIoN)
  • Professional Fellow (FIoN)
  • Student
  • Associate

As well as the benefits listed your membership fee, contributions and continued support enable us to not only provide intelligence for government and market information for industry, but also act for society as a whole.

Q: How do I apply for Professional Membership?

Applicants are required to provide information on their experience and evidence of their qualifications, which will then be assessed as to 'Member' or 'Fellow' status by the board.

Please send an up-to-date copy of your CV or similar documentation, along with a completed
IoN Membership application form, to: gemma.mcculloch@nano.org.uk.

Q: How can I transfer from Associate to Professional Member of the IoN?

Professional Membership recognises the professional status of our members. Applications, which must include your CV and complete application form, are accepted from those whose careers involve them in nanotechnology.

Q: Should I apply to be a Member or a Fellow?

Selection for Professional Membership with the Institute of Nanotechnology is made by the IoN board. Once a CV is submitted by a prospective candidate the CV is passed to the board who review the candidacy of the applicant based on the experience, qualifications and contribution the applicant has made towards the Nanotechnology industry

Professional membership is divided into 2 categories.

Q: What are the fees for membership?

  • Professional Member (MIoN)
    • Member 1 year fee: £40
    • Member 3 years fee: £100
    • Member 5 years fee: £150
  • Professional Fellow (FIoN)
    • Fellow (FIoN) 1 year fee: £55
    • Fellow (FIoN) 3 years fee: £140
    • Fellow (FIoN) 5 years fee: £210

    + £10 Joining Fee    

  • Student Member
    • Member 1 year fee: £12
    • Member 2 years fee: £20
    • Member 3 or more years fee: £25

    (All above fees are VAT exempt)

    Q: Are there any reduced rates?

    Certain groups will be eligible to take advantage of reduced rates and discounts off the standard subscription rates.  These include students and retired members.

    New graduates, who were previously student members, will receive a one year ‘post qualification’ concession.

    Q: How long will my application take?

    The membership department will acknowledge receipt of your CV and completed application form and you will receive a decision on your application within four weeks. Please note that incomplete application forms will be returned.

    Q: Will I receive a receipt for my payment?

    If you pay online at www.nano.org.uk/payments a receipt will automatically be generated.

    For payments made by cheque, credit card or BACS, a receipt will be sent to you with your confirmation email.

    As the IoN aims to be a paperless organisation paper receipts are not sent through the post.

    Q: Will I be able to get a certificate of membership?

    We will send you a certificate of membership via email. As the IoN aims to be a paperless organisation paper certificates are not sent through the post.
