Monday 26th October at 2pm
“Real Life Applications for Nano (Nanotechnology, Nanoelectronics, Nanomedicine, Nanochemistry)”
The University of Glasgow has proven itself as one of the UK 's (and Europe 's) leading institutions for academic “nano” research. We have built up a massive resource in nano that is now able to assist enterprises in realizing new products, processes and innovative business opportunities through their use and integration of “nano”. To build on this the University is now developing the concept of “NanoYard” specifically to work with industry and its requirements for interdisciplinary “nano” knowledge, skills and facilities.
This workshop will be an interactive opportunity to share opportunities and requirements, where all attendees are participants. This will be a unique opportunity to discuss and debate “nano” and to identify the impact it could have on your business and it will help the University of Glasgow to not only develop the optimum NanoYard concept.
Come prepared to discuss (non-confidentially) your thoughts and interest in “nano”. You will have the opportunity to present 2 slides on your business and nano opportunity or requirements. You will start to forge new partnerships with the university and with other participants that can positively impact your future business.
Please RSVP as soon as possible as spaces will be limited and priority will be given to those willing to present. Please confirm your attendance (or that of a colleague) at this workshop by contacting: Louise O'Neill, L.O'Neill@enterprise.gla.ac.uk

Summary of the Consensus Discussion of the Scientific Experts Working Group
Nanotechnology/Micelle Technology
The working group welcomes the scientific opinion of the EFSA on "The Potential Risks Arising from Nanoscience and Nanotechnologies on Food and Feed Safety" on February 2009 which was published in the EFSA journal (2009) 958 1-39.
Based on pharmacological and toxioclogical aspects, questions arose which have to be considered during the processing of nanoscale particles in the food and feed sectors. Here the EFSA mentions engineered Nanomaterials (ENMs). The conventional methods used in food technology which have been established over decades are not addressed in this paper.
