British Royalty Addresses Major US Nanotechnology Conference
The British Consulate-General Houston and the UK Trade & Investment, major sponsors of NanoTX’06, will host a ranking member of the British Royal Family at the event. It has been announced that His Royal Highness The Duke of York, KG, KCVO, ADC, will address the conference on the second day. Prince Andrew is the third child and second son of Queen Elizabeth, and whose older brother is Prince Charles, the Duke of Wales.
“I am honoured to have his Royal Highness attend and speak at nanoTX '06,” said Kelly Kordzik, President of the Texas Nanotechnology Initiative that is presenting the event. “His presence shows how important nanotechnology has become to the future of our society.”
Prince Andrew will arrive at the Dallas Convention Center about 2:00pm. September 28, and then will attend a private reception given by the British Consulate-General. The only cameraman allowed at the reception will be the official event celebrity photographer, W. W. Caruth III. At 3:30pm the Prince will address conference attendees and honoured guests, currently scheduled for the Convention Center Arena.
His remarks are expected to touch on the partnership between Texas and the United Kingdom in the Bioscience Collaboration Initiative, the dramatic growth of nanotechnology and how it has affected the British and US economies, and the partnership with the US and Lockheed Martin in developing the new Joint Strike fighter plane, among other exciting advances.
