INTRODUCTION

The 5th Iberian Vacuum Meeting and Applications, RIVA 5 corresponds with the XI Spanish Vacuum Meeting and V Portuguese Vacuum Meeting and it is the most important joint activity of the Spanish Vacuum Society, ASEVA, and the Portuguese Vacuum Society, SOPORVAC. This is the continuation of the series started in Braga in 1989, holds alternatively in Spain and Portugal and organised jointly by both societies. The main objective is to give to scientists and engineers the opportunity to interchange their knowledge, research experience, technology and applications of the field of vacuum science, surface science, surface instrumentation, thin films and vacuum technology. We encourage participating to young scientists and engineers as well technicians and experts from vacuum and coatings industry.

CALL FOR ABSTRACTS
Deadline: June 10, 2005

Contributions are sought for, but not limited to, the topics listed above. In addition to the academic and industrial presentations and invited lectures there were "round tables" where to discuss the present state of the art of vacuum science and technology, novel applications and current challenges and opportunities.
The manuscripts submitted to RIVA 5 and accepted after revision will be published in the international journal Vacuum (indexed in the Science Citation Index).

STUDENTS SPONSORSHIPS

A limited number of sponsorships will be awarded to a selected full-time registered students/young scientist giving an oral presentation at RIVA 5. A committee of referees will judge the competition primarily on the basis of the quality of the scientific content of the extended abstracts and student’s project summary. In addition to the free conference registration award the winners of the student/young scientist will be awarded a certificate. Please check conference website for details.

EXHIBITOR, SPONSORSHIPS AND ADVERTISING OPPORTUNITIES

An exhibition of vacuum technology and thin film related products will be held along side the conference. Companies and Research Institutes are invited to join RIVA 5 in what will be the major Vacuum Technology and Applications event in 2005 in the Iberia Peninsula.
Contributions in any amount to support the conference, from exhibitors or non-exhibitors, will be greatly appreciated and gratefully acknowledged on the conference web site and in the abstract book. Exhibitors may sponsor any of a variety of conference activities. The student awards and poster awards will bear the contributing company’s name. Please contact directly RIVA Secretariat for more details in renting exhibitor spaces and sponsorship opportunities.
