An international seminar entitled "Science, Technology and Innovation" was held at the Brazil Pavilion in Shanghai, showcasing technology development and innovation activities. The fruits of bilateral cooperation between China and Brazil in cutting edge technologies such as space, earth resource satellites and nanotechnology have also been demonstrated in the seminar held in the Brazil Pavilion.
"Brazil-China 'Innovative Technology, Climate Change and Energy' Center" has also been established during this seminar to allocate resources of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro and Tsinghua University, top universities of the two countries, in order to solve problems caused by pollution and climate change. The Brazilian government will invest about 2 million US dollars in the center, which will bring the strategic partnership in the technology field between China and Brazil to a new level.
Professor Luis Manuel Rebelo Fernandes, chairman of the Brazilian Research and Projects Financing Agency (FINEP), said that science, technology and innovation are essential elements for sustainable development, economic growth and life quality in urban areas. As two fast emerging powers in the international arena, China and Brazil face similar challenges during the process of development, so it is very significant to stimulate bilateral cooperation between the two countries. FINEP has always been looking forward to cooperation with China in science, technology and innovation.
The seminar in the Brazil Pavilion aims at showcasing a diversified Brazil. Pedro Wendler, director of the Brazil Pavilion, said Brazil is strengthening cooperation with other countries and hopes to express its willingness for international cooperation by holding seminars.
The seminars will provide a platform for idea exchanges and experience sharing, and the third seminar - themed as "Energy Promotion in Brazil's Urban Development" - will be held in the Expo Center on July 6. The seminar will provide opportunities to showcase the latest energy development and innovation in Brazil, and it will also provide a platform for business people to find partners in energy investment.
